Dr. Barry Keys Dr. Barry K. Keys began his pastoral ministry in Forest City in January of 2000.  Barry is a graduate of Charleston Southern University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Drew Univer-sity.  Prior to coming to Forest City, he served various pastorates in the state of South Carolina.  His wife Amber teaches music at R. S. Middle School. His daugh-ter, Hayley, is a student at Isothermal Community College, and his son, Baxter, is presently working in Charleston, SC.  (e-mail)

Rev. Tony SpencerRev. Tony Spencer, Minister of Music, joined the church staff in 1982. He came to Forest City from Louisville, KY, where he served Broadway Baptist Church and completed his Master of Church Music degree (with a second major in vocal pedagogy) at The School of Music. Prior to that, he received degrees from Carson-Newman College and North Greenville College. Affirming Tony's call to the gospel ministry, First Baptist Church of Forest City ordained him in 1984. He is active in the American Choral Directors Association, where he recently served as Southern Division Repertoire and Standards Chair for Music in Worship. He currently serves the NC Cooperative Baptist Fellowship as a member of their Faith Development Ministry Council. Past denominational service includes terms on the Executive Committee of the General Board of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Tony is married to Becky, and they have two children, Meredith, who is a preschool teacher in Nashville, TN, and Charles, who is a student at Brevard College.  (e-mail)


Dr. Diane Nelson Diane Nelson, organist/music assistant, came to First Baptist Church from Gainesville, Florida, in 1994.  She has earned degrees from the University of Florida, The Southern Baptist Theo-logical Seminary, and Jacksonville (FL) University. Her primary responsi-bilities include coordinating the Children's Music Program, accompanying choirs, and playing for worship services.  In addition. Diane teaches private and group piano lessons.  She is married to Dr. Robert Nelson.

Brandi Powers has been serving the FBC family as Minister of Youth and Children since 2007. Originally from Glade Springs, Virginia, she is a graduate of Bluefield College and the M. Christopher White School of Divinity at Gardner-Webb University, where she majored in missiology. Brandi is married to Josh Powers.
