Music

Over 200 people are involved in the Music Ministry through participation in Kindermusik, choral ensembles, English handbell choirs, instrumental ensembles, and private instruction. There is a place in the Music Ministry for everyone!

Kindermusik Village is for babies ages 0-18 months old. Village introduces multiple levels of developmentally appropriate activities occurring simultaneously with babies in this age range. Diane Nelson is the instructor.
Our Time is for toddlers ages 2-3 years old. Our Time includes singing, movement, and playing simple percussion instruments. Caregiver and child participate in the class together. Rhonda Hardin is the instructor.
Growing is for 4 year olds. As children grow in verbal, motor, and social skills, their imagination and creativity are encouraged through singing, movement, and the use of instruments. Growing involves caregiver interaction the last fifteen minutes of class. Alecia Dowling is the instructor.
Young Child is for 5 year olds. Foundations for musical development are learned through singing, movement, use of instruments, reading, and writing music. Young Child involves caregiver interaction the last fifteen minutes of class. Bob Nelson is the instructor.

Music Makers is for children in Grades 1-2. Music Makers seeks to teach children melodic and rhythmic skills necessary in ensemble singing. Baptist mission lessons are also taught as part of the curriculum. Teresa McDaniel is the instructor.
Young Musicians is for children in Grades 3-5. The Young Musicians choir offers children opportunities to develop an understanding of choral tone and literature for the unchanged voice. The group sings at least quarterly in worship. Baptist mission lessons are also taught as part of the curriculum. Tony Spencer is the instructor.
Youth Choir is for youth in Grades 6-12. Youth Choir offers young singers opportunities for musical, social, and spiritual development through worship leadership, festivals, and camps. The choir leads in worship once each month during the semester and at special seasonal occasions. Tony Spencer is the director.
Sanctuary Choir is for adults. The Sanctuary Choir works diligently to lead the liturgy of the church through sacred music. Weekly worship services and special seasonal services are the primary responsibilities of this group. Tony Spencer is the director.
Chapel Choir is for senior adults. The Chapel Choir has a unique mission of ministering through music to nursing home residents. Literature is easy to moderate with emphasis on gospel hymnody. Tony Spencer is the director.

Young Musicians Handbells is for children in Grades 4-6. Young Musicians Handbells focuses on basic handbell techniques and music reading. Dr. Diane Nelson is the director.
Youth Handbells is for youth, Grades 7-12. Youth Handbells lead periodically in worship and participate in handbell festivals as well as ringing at other churches. Tony Spencer is the director.
Sanctuary Handbells is an advanced musical group for adults and assumes regular responsibilities in worship leadership. Ringing at other churches and festivals are also annual events for this group. Tony Spencer is the director.

The Instrumental Ensemble of First Baptist Church plays periodically for special services. Instrumentation varies according to availability of members. Rehearsals are scheduled to meet the needs of services. Robert Nelson is the director.
The Foothills Community Band of Rutherford County is a nonprofit organization that welcomes all who would like to be part of a community organization which promotes the learning and performance of band music. Jim Diehl is the conductor.

Piano lessons are offered to members of the community by the Music Associate. Tuition is determined by the Music Committee. Call the church office for more information (828-245-6626).
